The Calgary Regional Partnership approached Cordon Media to put together an informative digital campaign to introduce the new Calgary Metropolitan Plan. The CMP is essentially a plan for the Calgary Regional Partnership’s future. The Region is projected to grow to three million people by the year 2076 with an additional 700,000 jobs. The challenges of dealing with rapid, robust growth are more easily managed with the guidance of the Calgary Metropolitan Plan. This comprehensive Plan represents a roadmap to determine how and where this inevitable growth will take place.
Prior to this campaign the CMP was not prepared in a way that made it easy or appealing for the general public to consume. The CRP wanted to change that by introducing new technologies and interactive touchscreen development into the mix. Our team put together an overview animation, a Flash Microsite, a touchscreen installation and large format info graphic posters. As a result we were able to help the CRP reach their goal of completely transforming the way the public thinks of and consumes the Metropolitan Plan.
The CMP animation was a brief video, overviewing the major 5 principles of the CMP including topics like water management, governance, positive growth, and infrastructure . The video highlighted policies, changes made and the overall purpose and vision of the Plan. The video served as a teaser giving the users something to look forward to before the microsite and touch screen application were launched.
CMP Infographic Posters
In addition to the touchscreen and microsite we created large format 7″ tall info graphic posters as the final piece of the Campaign. We adapted some of the visuals from the Touchscreen Application for print in combination with a new new graphics covering topics such as transportation, water conservation and development footprint comparisons.
The Cordon team put together an exciting and informative microsite highlighting the efforts of the CRP with the Calgary Metropolitan Plan. The microsite features a 3D model representing the diverse and beautiful Calgary Region. Users explore this 3D land, all while learning about the principles, mission and vision of the Plan.
Our team’s challenge was in providing a visually immersive experience while conveying the right amount of content to keep the user interested and informed but not overwhelmed. We made it our mission to distill the plan into digestible sections that give the users the opportunity to either dig in deeper if they are interested or only learn the high level goals. Furthermore, each principles featured an interactive info graphic showing information that is more suited to visual representation such as development footprint and transportation planning. Ultimately our focus was in bringing these important plans and policies to the people of the Calgary Region who they will most impact.
CMP Interactive Touchscreen Development
Accompanying the CMP Campaign the Cordon team put together a touchscreen application that was featured at this year’s General Assembly event. The application featured a series of info graphics categorized by the major themes within the CMP document. The graphics visually portrayed projected growth, proposed change and the main goals of the Calgary Metropolitan Plan. The application allowed users to play around and manipulate the data within the info graphics allowing a much more intuitive way of consuming complex concepts and information. Traditionally this kind of data was relayed via long paragraphs, static bar graphs and spreadsheets leaving the users feeling more confused and now all that data is reachable and at their fingertips.
